PRESS RELEASE 'This is Punk Rock Blues Vol #1' is a compilation of all the artists that have played at the London based, punk rock blues club night Not The Same Old Blues Crap in the last twelve months. Available on Punk Rock Blues Records at www.punkrockblues.co.uk and with nationwide distribution through Cargo from July 2005 it gives a snapshot of the radical left field blues scene in the U.K., Europe and the U.S. The following press release was written to publicize the club's first night in April of last year and it still holds true to what we're about and what we’re doing today...
The 'Not The Same Old Blues Crap' club takes it’s name from the title of the first sampler album released by the Oxford, Mississippi, USA punk rock blues label Fat Possum. Like the label, the club seeks to give an outlet to raw, unrefined and skewered punk rock blues. By the blues we do not mean the anachronistic, referential, diluted blues that exists in the Sunday jams and blues clubs of London and the rest of the country. The blues played at 'Not The Same Old Blues Crap' is not governed or dictated to by a set of pre-determined rules; it’s whatever we want it to be. The bands and DJs who play at 'Not The Same Old Blues Crap' are the living and breathing embodiment of this ethos.
Highlights of NTSOBC in the past twelve months have included numerous one-off promotions throughout the country featuring headlining spots from T-Model Ford, Petit Vodo, Gin Palace and The Dirty among many others. In November last year we took NTSOBC on its first nationwide tour with the U.K. debut of Seasick Steve and The Level Devils. We organized T-Model Ford’s recent sell-out U.K. Tour. Most recently NTSOBC was asked to promote three shows as part of The Spitz's Festival of Blues in London in April this year. The two NTSOBC shows so far, featuring T-Model Ford and the Soledad Brothers headlining, were both fantastic sell-out successes. The final show of the festival and a pre-release party for This is Punk Rock Blues with the Immortal Lee County Killers III on Saturday 30th April is set to go the same way.
The majority of the eighteen tracks are exclusive to the record, including T-Models Ford’s 'Take a Ride With Me', which was personally chosen and recorded by Fat Possum’s Bruce Watson and The Immortal Lee County Killer’s track, 'Blues' another exclusive featuring Jeff Goodwin on organ in the Killers third incarnation. This is Punk Rock Blues Vol #1 is a celebration and document of Not The Same Old Blues Crap’s last twelve months and all the acts that have contributed to its success.

T-Model Ford - T-Model's credentials are impeccable; if anything he's over qualified. He was born James Lewis Carter Ford in Forrest, a small community in Scott County, Mississippi. T-Model thinks he's seventy-five but isn't sure. He was plowing a field behind a mule on his family's farm by age eleven, and in his early teens he secured a job at a local sawmill. He excelled and was later recruited by a foreman from a bigger lumber company in the Delta, near Greenville, and eventually got promoted to truck driver. Between that and working in a log camp T-Model was sentenced to ten years on a chain-gang for murder. He lucked out and was released after serving two. He says, grinning, "I could really stomp some ass back then, stomp it good. I was a-sure-enough- dangerous man."

Soledad Brothers - Idiosyncratic, imperfect, soulful, and fierce, the Soledads' music is punk-rock attitude melded with Southern country fish fry, all-day sidewalk jamming, and White Panther power. It sounds like John Lee Hooker on an amphetamine jag.

Immortal Lee County Killers III
Punk-Blues with enough psychedelia for William Faulkner’s ghost to feelnervous around mirrors; music of the ilck3 tastes like hot molassesspreading over a slice of Howlin' Wolf, with a side of Mc5/the Doors, an inspirational dash of John Coltrane (WWJCD?), and maybe for dessert- sundrops of pinball.
'The music to bring down these tired old machines and give juice to thenew power, the forgotten power, the power of the people' - Thrasher Magazine
'Total destruction of your mind' - Rolling Stone

Ghostwriter - Ghostwriter uses a homemade foot-percussion device, hollow body guitar, harmonica and banjo to hammer out bleak portraits of existence over an angst-laden backdrop. His intensity in song and presence is seldom matched. With a dark, swampy sound as abrasive as it is vulnerable and a live show that reaches total abandonment he continues to spread his reputation as a unique part of the rock n’ roll underground and one of the few existing punk/folk singers.

The Dirty
The Dirty are pure anthemic sleaze in that stripped-down and open way that makes you believe that you can do what the fuck you like in this world. These boys are about the original, nihilistic energy of joy that only rock'n'roll can fully express...

Seasick Steve & The Level Devils - Dirty, funky, nasty...
Cheap - Yeah, more Seasick Steve! Check out the video for 'Cheap'
Cheap was released during March 2004. It’s recorded and produced by the dog his self, under the strong influence of Mississippi Blues and the years spent in boxcars through the 60’s in America. Seasick says that
«of course it was great to meet all these old legends, like Son House, and that made a big impression on you. But the strongest memories are the characters I met briefly during the rambling years through the mid west and south. The short moments when someone played a song on a beat up guitar in a dirty boxcar, or an old guy who played the harmonica and told stories, the old fashioned way, the walking folk Blues style. I never saw or heard ‘em again, that never got recorded, it was just there and then.»
